Dorman Collection

Richard L. Dorman Collection of Narrow Gauge Images

The collection is devoted to the narrow gauge railroads of Colorado and New Mexico, comprising some 20,000 black and white images and 6,000 color slides. This acquisition places the Friends' library and archive among the most important such institutions in the country, if not the world. The Board of Directors mandated that funds needed for accession, storage, scanning, and publication of guides and catalogs must not impose a burden on regular operating monies. In short, we must raise money for those activities. We envision funds coming from those members who might not be as active in the restoration work in Chama and Antonito.

Locomotive 463 Restoration

Locomotive 463 Restoration

Please join us in filling this gap to get the 463 running again.  When operational, the 463 will be the oldest locomotive operating over the railroad.  It will once again provide helper service up Cumbres Pass, and be used to haul vintage freight charters and other special trains, offering a unique experience for passengers, railroad enthusiasts and photographers.

In appreciation for your contribution we have some very special thank you gifts.

  • For gifts of $100 or more, donors will receive a 463 collector’s pin
  • For gifts of $3500 or more, donors will receive a highly detailed model of 463 as an On3 or On30 model
  • For gifts of $5,000 or more, donors will have the privilege of a cab ride on the 463 from Chama to Cumbres.
